Research Achievements
During the last 20 years in the laboratory headed by me (Laboratory of X-Ray Powder Diffractometry and Spectrometry, Institute of Physical Chemistry PAS, Warsaw, Poland) I have developed in situ diffraction method to analyze and follow a surface evolution of small metal nanoparticles. The method consists in a specific experimental approach as well as in original way to interpret the collected data using atomistic simulations. An experimental base for such studies is the constructed in Laboratory, integrated system for operando studies (XRD,MS). Small nanocrystals require specific research approach and in spite of a common belief, cannot be effectively studied with Rietveld full profile analysis. The principles and constrains of such "diffraction beyond Bragg law" have been described in Z.Kaszkur, Zeitschrift für Kristallographie, 23, 147-154 (2006) , in Kaszkur, Mierzwa, Pielaszek, J.Appl.Crystall., 38, 266–273 (2005) and in Kaszkur, Rzeszotarski, Juszczyk, J.Appl.Crystall., 47, 2069-2077.(2014) A proof for the proposed method was a successful monitoring of Pt nanocrystals surface reconstruction during desorption of hydrogen (Phys.Chem.Chem.Phys., 11, 5416 – 5421 (2009)) and studies of relaxation/reconstruction phenomena of Pt (RSC Adv., 4 (28), 14758 – 14765 (2014)). The method was applied to the important catalytic process of CO oxidation on Au/CeO2 providing new, important insight into the reaction mechanism (Scientific Reports (2023), https://doi.org/10.1038/s41598-023-28557-5).
Prizes and awards: during the last 10 years 6 prizes granted by Scientific Council of the Institute of Physical Chemistry PAS in the annual contest for the best publication.
Qualifications
PhD and DSc in solid state physics, full professorship since 2022.
Lecturer in Cardinal Stefan WyszyĆski University (crystallography) and International Doctoral Studies at IPC (Structure of matter).
More than 100 publications in international journals indexed in ISI database, more than 60 presentations in international conferences, many expertises for pharmaceutical industry.(H=27)
